 ICEBERG New Music 에서 주최하는 작곡 프로그램에관한 소식입니다. 프로그램 기간은 2022년 7월 18일부터 29일까지이며, 오스트리아 비엔나에서 열릴 예정입니다.

OVERVIEW


ICEBERG New Music is thrilled to announce ICEBERG Intensive 2022, a rigorous, 2-week course of workshops, master classes, concerts and presentations for up to 16 young and emerging composers. Located in the heart of Vienna, one of the most iconic musical cities in the world, this is a singular opportunity for participants to make connections and hone their craft. They will receive daily input and feedback from composition faculty and distinguished guest faculty, and have their music performed and recorded by a prestigious, internationally-recognized ensemble.

DATES


ICEBERG Institute 2022 will be held from July 18-29, 2022. Participants should plan to arrive in Vienna on July 17 and depart on July 30.


LOCATION AND FACILITIES


Lessons, masterclasses, and forums during ICEBERG Institute 2022 will be held at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien (Vienna University for Music and the Performing Arts), Penzingerstraße campus. The institute's final concert will take place in the University's arena, a turn-of-the-century recital hall that has been preserved since Gustav Mahler, Hugo Wolf, and others were students. The Penzingerstraße campus is located near the historic Schönbrunn Palace, a short metro ride from the center of the city. Participants will be housed in apartment accommodations near campus, and will receive a metro pass to provide them free transportation within Vienna. The final concert will be recorded, and participants will receive high-quality audio and video records of their work.


COMPOSITION FACULTY


ICEBERG New Music is a collective of 10 composers based in New York City. Since 2016, ICEBERG has toured throughout North America, presenting over 30 concerts featuring over 100 world premieres.The members of ICEBERG hold terminal degrees from some of the world’s best conservatories and universities, including The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Yale University, and City University of New York. They teach at institutions across the United States and in Europe.


Oscar Bianchi (Distinguished Guest Faculty) is a Gaudeamus Award-winning Italian/Swiss composer whose music has been performed by orchestras and chamber ensembles around the world. Recent collaborations include projects with Ensemble Moderne, JACK Quartet, The International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), Philharmonic radio Orchestra of France, and many others.


ENSEMBLE IN RESIDENCE


Founded in 2013, Trio Immersio (Ensemble in Residence) won the Suzuki-Enami Foundation prize at the 2013 Fidelio competition within two months of its existence, and has been recognized with a number of awards and prizes since. Notably, Trio Immersio received the “New Sound of Austrian Music” program of the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, given to select musicians to represent the musical culture and traditions of Austria all over the globe. They are also the winner of the Bank of Austria Arts Prize 2016, and are proud members of the Le Dimore del Quartetto association.


Trio Immersio has performed at prestigious venues including the Musikverein Wien, Wiener Konzerthaus, RadioKulturhaus Wien, Flagey in Brussels, Royal Danish Opera, Teatru Manoel in Malta, Theatre Sorano in Dakar, CRR Concer Salonu in Istanbul, Schönberg Centre, Ancient Amphitheater in Bodrum, Kyiv Philharmonie, Georgian National Parliamentary Library. Active worldwide, Trio Immersio has toured extensively in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Japan.


SCHEDULE


ICEBERG Institute takes place from July 18-29, 2022. It is designed to provide composers with daily instruction and feedback, multiple opportunities to hear their music workshopped and performed, free time to write and study, and opportunities to explore their surroundings. Participants will share their work in masterclass settings, and receive feedback from distinguished guest faculty Oscar Bianchi. Participants will also enjoy a one-day excursion to Salzburg, birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and a guided tour of the Mozarteum Conservatory.

JULY 17 – Composers arrive in Vienna


JULY 18 – Readings/Rehearsals with Trio Immersio, Panel Discussion


JULY 19-22 – Daily composition instruction, revision period


JULY 23 – Salzburg excursion, Mozarteum visit


JULY 24 – Free composition time, deadline to send revised scores


JULY 25-28 – Student and faculty presentations, rehearsals


JULY 29 – Guest composer master classes, closing concert, banquet



HOW TO APPLY


To apply, click the "Apply Now" button at https://www.icebergnewmusic.com/institute. Composers are welcome to apply as active participants (16 spots available) or auditors (10 spots available). All participants must be 18 years or older. All applicants will need to provide the following:


- Name


- Date of Birth


- Citizenship


- Link to a resumé or C.V.


- Links to two work samples (scores) with accompanying recordings


Additionally, accepted candidates will be asked to supply the following before arrival:


- Proof of valid passport


- Proof of health insurance


- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination

TIMELINE AND FEES


COURSE FEE: €2950 (participants), €640 (auditors)


Full course fee includes: All classes and workshops, all transportation within Vienna, accommodations, daily coffee break refreshments (weekdays), one daily light lunch (weekdays), transportation to and from Salzburg, Mozarteum tour, concert performance, high-quality audio and video recording.


Auditor course fee includes: All classes and workshops (listener only), daily coffee break refreshments (weekdays), one daily light lunch (weekdays), concert admission. The Salzburg tour is not included, but auditors wishing to attend may do so by request, for an additional fee.


One (1) scholarship is available for a full participant. This scholarship will be awarded on a need-based basis.
